П...

П

П п пы – Pronounced like the “p” sound in the word “parent”:

  • пэ "nose",
  • сапэ́ "dust".

П1

П1 п1 п1ы – Has no equivalent in English. This is a labial, guttural sound. It is different from the voiceless consonant “п” by additional articulation of vocal cords. In order to pronounce the “п1” sound one closes the lips and vocal cords at first. The lips explosively open, then, almost immediately, the vocal cords open as well, which brings a specific shade to the sound. There is no aspiration in the sound.

  • п1э "bed",
  • п1эшъхьа́гъ "pillow".

П1у

П1у п1у п1уы – Pronunciation of the sound has the same basis as with the “п1” sound, but it has additional labialization at the end. When the organs open, passing the air, the lips are stretched forward and rounded, which makes the sound last a little longer.

  • п1ун "educate",
  • п1ур "apprentice".
