The main branch in the Republic of Adygeya is food industry which produces meat products, confectionery, canned and macaroni foods, wine and alcohol products etc. The biggest working enterprises with the stable result are cannery "Adygheiski", "Maykopski" brewery, confectionery "Maykopskaya", alcohol plant "Maykopski", macaroni plant, dairy plant "Giaginski", sugar refinery and others.

The availability of wood reserves made it possible to create a powerful furniture, wood-working, wood pulp and paper industries. Forest industry complex is mainly based on the local reserves which adds priority to its status.

At the 12 large and small scale enterprises producing merchantable timber, sawn timber, parquet, sliced veneer, cabinet furniture, easy and bent chairs, gofer cardboard and packing boxes made of it there are working 16% of the workers busy in the industrial production. In May 2000 Joint-Stock Company "Kartontara" celebrated anniversary being the largest industrial enterprise in the republic. While operating with stable results it became the main producer of the gofer cardboard in the South of Russia and the main budget forming plant in Maykop. Its production reaches 88% of the branch and 38% of all-town output.

The enterprises of machine-building and metal working produce more than 11 % of all republic industrial production. Here the leading enterprise is Joint-Stock Company reduce plant "Zarem" producing more than 50 types of great boxes.

In 2000 it organized the work on producing agricultural machines for the needs of agrarians of the republic and the nearest regions.

10 years ago the young republic started with very low level of production and economic potential. Among the Russian regions it was the 69th in output. And in 2000 year it became the 2-nd in growth target of industrial production.

Adygeya was the second in Russia in the growth of physical industrial production index during 1999 and the first among the subjects of Northern Caucasus area.

The same situation can be seen in Russia as a whole and in the Northern Caucasus subjects. The industrial production index in 2000 against of 1990 was 54,2% for Russia, 47,1% for Adygeya, 48% for Kabardino-Balkaria, 25,7% for Karachaevo-Cherkessia and 59% for Krasnodar area.

Supplying the citizens of the republic with natural gas is another important aim.

Using all sources of financing in this period, 753 km of gas lines were built, 16 thousand flats were provided with gas, the primary starts of gas were made in 54 settlements, the total number of which is 115. The level of provision of gas supply in housing fund increased from 59% to 65%. In country district it is 35% against of 18% for Russian Federation as a whole.

During 2000 year natural gas consumption in the republic accounted for 620,6 million cubic metres and increased by 2,7% against of 1999. The tendency of increase in gas consumption will be kept in future thanks to putting into service new gas lines.

The total volume of output [including the output of small-scale and other subdivisions and not-traditional economics] in the terms of actual prices accounted for 2291,8 million roubles. The perspective values were exceeded be 7,5% as a whole and 2,4% for large and average-scale enterprises.

The republic tries to strengthen the new types of economic relations and to provide for market control. New tendencies in production have appeared. Due to the recent output increase the republic industry structure has changed. At the end of 1999 a new Joint-Stock Company with 100% of foreign investment "Kurmel-Gule Synthetic Ambalazh Sanai Maykop Ltd." started to operate being the chemical branch of industry. Last year this enterprise produced only 1% of the total republic output but there are prospects for production increase.
